Imam Santoso
()
Imam Santoso is not only a conservator at the National Museum of Indonesia but also a visionary artist from Yogyakarta with a distinctive style and extraordinary imagination. Through his vividly colored and surrealist paintings, Imam invites us to explore an inner world—sometimes quiet, sometimes full of wonder.
His works often feature solitary figures placed in dreamlike landscapes rich in detail. Yet it is precisely from this silence that powerful messages emerge—about vulnerability, raw emotion, and the hidden beauty within the human soul.
Born and raised in Yogyakarta, Imam pursued his passion for art through formal education at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI). Since then, his journey in the art world has steadily flourished. He was a finalist in the UOB Painting of the Year in 2011 and won the Basoeki Abdullah Art Award (BAAA#2) in 2016. Imam’s works are appreciated not only in Indonesia but also internationally. He has exhibited in countries such as the Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan, China, Japan, South Korea, Hungary, Spain, and France. Each of his paintings tells a story—and each story is an invitation for us to pause and reflect.
