Muna Diannur
(1990)
Muna Diannur is a visual artist who integrates the tradition of Arabic calligraphy with the aesthetics of contemporary urban art. Born in Langsa on September 22, 1990, he began his academic journey at the Institute of Qur’anic Calligraphy (LEMKA) before earning his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and a Master’s degree in Artistic Creation from the Jakarta Institute of the Arts (IKJ). He currently serves as a lecturer at the Fine Arts Department of IKJ while remaining actively engaged in the art world.
His expertise in calligraphy has been recognized from a young age through numerous Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an (MTQ) competitions, where he received awards at both provincial and national levels. These achievements laid the foundation for his artistic exploration, enabling him to develop a synthesis between classical calligraphic structures and more progressive visual approaches.
Since 2009, Muna has participated in various art exhibitions both nationally and internationally. He has consistently presented his work in calligraphy exhibitions, including The Power of Qur’an (2022) at the Jakarta Islamic Centre, as well as in shows that explore the transformation of Islamic art within a contemporary context. His broader involvement in the visual arts scene includes exhibitions such as AERTESIS (2) at Taman Ismail Marzuki, Motivasi Kontra Produktif at Artland Gallery, and Metropolitan Melodies at 2madison Gallery. In 2024, he took part in Art Jakarta at JIEXPO Kemayoran and will also be featured in LIMINAL REALITIES, a visual art exhibition at D’Gallerie Gallery in 2025.
Muna Diannur’s works are characterized by strong compositional dynamics and an intense color palette, reflecting a deep contemplation of contemporary social and cultural landscapes. Through an introspective and experimental approach, he continuously pushes the boundaries of visual representation, creating a rich dialectic between traditional heritage and modern artistic discourse.
