Walid Syarthowi Basmalah

Walid Syarthowi Basmalah is an artist and lecturer who works within the discipline of visual arts. He completed his studies in Printmaking at the Fine Art Department, Faculty of Fine Arts (FSR), Jakarta Institute of the Arts (IKJ). He later pursued a Master’s degree in Urban Art Creation at the IKJ Graduate School. Currently, he is undertaking doctoral research in Art at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Denpasar, focusing on Cultural Hegemony and Media Art during the 1990s–2000s.
Walid has been actively involved in community-based art initiatives since 2008. His artistic journey includes participation in notable programs such as a residency at North Art Space, Pasar Seni Ancol, Jakarta in 2010, and an art camp in Andorra in 2016. He has consistently exhibited his work both nationally and internationally.
Since 2016, Walid has been developing a body of work centered on domestic themes, approached through a geometric lens. His creations often employ screen printing techniques alongside painting, reflecting a thoughtful synthesis of form, concept, and technique.
